The Friends of the STXEEMP are still diligently seeking to build awareness of the territory’s first marine park–the St. Croix East End Marine Park. We did a lot in 2013 and have so much more planned for 2014–snorkel outings, lunch seminars, bayside hikes, presentations, stand-up paddle boarding, TWO lionfish derbies and a new event, Don’t Stop Talking Fish! Check out the Friends January newsletter for more info.
January is full of events anyone can join to learn about the Park, see the Park, experience the Park, and strive to conserve its natural and cultural resources. Join us for one!
Have you been attending the National Park Service’s 2nd Thursday Lectures? In January, Friends Coordinator Jenn Travis will lead a discussion of sustainable marine operator guidelines. This activity is appropriate for people who lead snorkels, swims, or kite surfing sessions, ride personal watercraft such as Sea-Doo, operate boats and ships, or fish in Caribbean waters. 5:30-6:30pm Thursday January 9th at the NPS Danish Guinea East India Company Warehouse/Slave Market Building in Christiansted. The NPS parking lot will be open during the lecture for free parking. Check out the press release below:
Hope to see you there! Each event promises to be lots of fun and filled with cool ways to preserve our marine park.
