Nearly 200 students learn about environmental careers

St. Croix East End Marine Park employees Migdalia Roach and John Farchette III discuss how their time in college and the military inspired them to pursue a job teaching people about the environment.

Approximately 175 students from the Good Hope School, St. Joseph’s High School, AZ Academy, and Country Day School attended an Environmental Career Expo Tuesday October 16, 2012.

Students listen to DPNR employees as they discuss what they studied to land a career in environmental sciences.

Students spoke with representatives from UVI Marine Advisory Services, National Park Service, Seven Seas Water Corporation, VI Waste Management Authority, UVI Cooperative Extension Services, STX East End Marine Park, VI Energy Office, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, DPNR – Air Pollution Control, Solid Waste, Water Pollution Program, Environmental Specialist, and Fish & Wildlife about their jobs and career path choices.

USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service employee Julie Wright talks about her job and daily activities with students.

This event was coordinated by the St. Croix Environmental Association and hosted by the Good Hope School. SEA hopes to coordinate career expos at St. Croix Educational Complex and Central High School later this year.
