Coastweeks International Coastal Cleanup – Saturday, September 29
Volunteers are needed for the annual event Coastweeks International Coastal Cleanup, also known as Coastweeks.
Coastweeks is aprogram of The Ocean Conservancy with 100 countries participating and is coordinated by Marcia Taylor of UVI Marine Advisory Service on St. Croix. Debris is removed from marine areas and tallied according to type of debris. The data collected from each beach is entered into the 2012 Coastweeks data. Read more about this program and review 2011 data at http://www.oceanconservancy.org/our-work/marine-debris/2012-data-release.html. St. Croix organizations, churches, youth groups, etc ‘adopt’ a beach and do a clean-up sometime between Sept 15 and Oct 30).
Please help SEA remove the beach debris from Southgate Coastal Reserve. We’ll be there from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m with supplies (bags and gloves). Call Carol Cramer-Burke or Lynnea Roberts 340-773-1989 for more information.
